Death Sentence

Death Sentence

In “Death Sentence” Nick Hume (KEVIN BACON) is an Everyman with a stable, comfortable life. He goes to work every day at his middle-management job at an insurance company. He goes home every night to his beautiful wife, Helen (KELLY PRESTON), and his two teenage sons, Brendan (STUART LAFFERTY) and Lucas (JORDAN GARRETT).

The Humes are a middle-class family who are the epitome of suburban bliss. And Nick is content. He pitches in with chores around the house. He relishes the intimacy he shares with Helen. She is his confidant and equal. And he is very involved in his boys’ lives. Brendan, the eldest son, is confident and headstrong. He is popular, he is an athlete and he is on his way to college to begin a promising life of his own. Lucas looks up to his brother, but is cognizant of the shadow Brendan casts. Lucas still hasn’t found himself, and he feels a little left out because of the adoration given to Brendan. All in all, the Humes are a typical all-American family – morally upright and humble.

And then one day, their perfect life comes to a screeching halt. One night when Nick is driving Brendan home from a hockey game, he stops for gas. While he is filling up the tank on the family car, Brendan goes inside to get a drink. Moments later, a gang of thugs enter the store in ski masks, armed with various weapons. But it is not your typical convenience store robbery: this is a rite of passage for Joe Darley (MATTHEW O’LEARY), the younger brother of Billy Darley (GARRETT HEDLUND), the ruthless street leader of the gang. After terrorizing and killing the store clerk, they turn their attention to Brendan.

It is at that moment when Nick turns from the pump and looks inside the store, only to witness Joe deliver the fateful blow that ends all of the promise of Brendan’s future, and leaves him lying in a pool of blood as the gang begins to flee. But when Nick runs to help his son, he clashes with Joe and they fall to the ground. Joe is unmasked, and his own future marked.

Joe is arrested, but despite assurances from the lead investigator, Detective Wallis (AISHA TYLER), the system ultimately fails the Humes and Joe is put back on the street. Driven by a heightened sense of justice and keen grief, Nick takes matters into his own hands by seeking out his son’s killer. In his confrontation with Joe, Nick finds himself at the mercy of his emotions and ultimately kills him. Unsure what to do, Nick runs back to the life that has always been his shelter: his wife, his surviving son and his job.

Nick thinks that all is at an end – an imperfect resolution to a horrible tragedy, but fitting. Except there is blood, now, on Nick’s hands and it will not come off … Billy Darley is on the prowl, and the stage is set for a violent exchange that only escalates with each pounding beat of their hearts. How far will Nick go to protect his family? How far will Billy go to protect his own?

Balls of Fury

Balls of Fury

“Balls Of Fury” – In the unsanctioned, underground and unhinged world of extreme Ping-Pong, the competition is brutal and the stakes are deadly. Now, Rogue Pictures’ outrageous new comedy “Balls of Fury” serves up this secret world for the first time on-screen. Written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum, Reno 911!), the absolutely dreadful film is directed by Ben Garant. Down-and-out former professional Ping-Pong phenom Randy Daytona (Tony Award winner Dan Fogler) is sucked into this maelstrom when FBI Agent Rodriguez (George Lopez) recruits him for a secret mission. Randy is determined to bounce back and recapture his former glory, and to smoke out his father’s (Robert Patrick) killer – one of the FBI’s Most Wanted, arch-fiend Feng (Academy Award winner Christopher Walken). But, after two decades out of the game, Randy can’t turn his life around and avenge his father’s murder without a team of his own. He calls upon the spiritual guidance of blind Ping-Pong sage and restaurateur Wong (James Hong), and the training expertise of Master Wong’s wildly sexy niece Maggie (Maggie Q), both of whom also have a dark history with Feng. All roads lead to Feng’s mysterious jungle compound and the most unique Ping-Pong tournaments ever staged. There, Randy faces such formidable players as his long-ago Olympics opponent, the still-vicious Karl Wolfschtagg (Mr. Lennon). Can Randy keep his eye on the balls? Will he achieve the redemption he craves while wielding a paddle? Is his backhand strong enough to triumph over rampant wickedness?

The Last Legion

The Last Legion

“The Last Legion.” Rome, AD 475. The Roman Empire is under threat. A mighty force for almost 800 years, at its height Rome’s power spread from Mesopotamia in the east to the Iberian peninsula in the west, from the Rhine and Danube in the north to Egypt in the south. This story follows the events surrounding the historical capture of Romulus Augustus and his imprisonment on the island of Capri.

On the eve of the ceremony to crown twelve-year-old Romulus Augustus as the new emperor, the Barbarian general Odoacer arrives in Rome to make a deal with Orestes, patrician and father of the young Caesar. Odoacer makes demands on the power of the Roman Empire, in fair exchange for his decade-long support of the Roman legions in the east. Orestes refuses.

On the day of the coronation, as the whole of Rome gathers to watch the proceedings, Ambrosinus, the shaman who is a mentor and tutor to Romulus, predicts danger. Orestes is worried for his son’s safety and appoints Aurelius, the tribune of the fourth legion, as his personal guard. That night Aurelius and his legionnaires are confronted by a real danger—Odoacer and his army of Goths have returned to the outskirts of Rome to conquer the city.

With a deafening roar, the Barbarian army storm the city. A terrible battle ensues, the brutal invaders show no mercy and blood flows through the streets.

With Orestes and his wife Julia slaughtered, Romulus is captured along with Ambrosinus and both are taken to the island fortress of Capri built by the emperor Tiberius. It is there that Romulus finds the mythical sword of Caesar that holds the prophecy ‘One edge to defend, one to defeat; In Britannia was I forged…to fit the hand of he…who is destined to rule’.

But not all the Roman legionnaires are dead. Aurelius is alive and when he learns that the Byzantine Empire will give Romulus sanctuary, he embarks on the journey to the coast accompanied by a small group of his men and a mysterious, black-clad Byzantine warrior. On the journey, Aurelius discovers what lies behind the black clothing — a young, beautiful woman called Mira.

Thanks to the strategic cunning of Ambrosinus and the fighting skill of Aurelius and Mira, Romulus is freed. But when the group arrive on shore, they learn that the Byzantines have joined forces with the Goths. Faced with such betrayal, the only course of action is to reach the one legion still loyal to Rome—the ninth legion in Britannia.

As they set off on their dangerous trek North in search of the last legion, Romulus discovers a new father figure in his protector Aurelius and together they embark on a new beginning.

Skinwalkers

Skinwalkers

“Skinwalkers,” (as you can see from perusing the posters on this page), has had a life of its own. Originally, “Skinwalkers” was to be released on March 30, 2007. When WAM contacted regional Lionsgate Filmed Enterainment publicsts, during the middle of March 2007, none had even heard of “Skinwalkers.”

Wild About Movies, given the go ahead by Lionsgate internal publicity, early in the month of July 2007, was told that “Skinwalkers” was going to be released on July 27, 2007.

But, it was not – and was pushed back, yet again to, presumably the official release date – since the latest poster of “Skinwalkers” (above), indicates such.

In addition, the movie had originally been given an R-rating by the MPAA. Did the reason for the film’s delay in release have to do with extreme editing to allow the film a more tepid PG-13 rating, which it will be released with in theaters? (We’re sure the DVD of “Skinwalkers” will be released in an UNRATED version.)

“Skinwalkers” is a horror action film about a 12-year-old boy who suddenly finds himself at the center of a battle between two warring groups of werewolves. One group of werewolves is sworn to protect him, the other group is trying to kill him — and the young boy’s mother has to find out why her son is at the center of the conflict before time runs out – “Skinwalkers.”

The Bourne Ultimatum

The Bourne Ultimatum

In 2002’s The Bourne Identity, he tried to discover who he was. In 2004’s The Bourne Supremacy, he exacted revenge for what was done to him. Now, he is coming home and has only these words for his pursuers: “I remember everything” – in “The Bourne Ultimatum!”

MATT DAMON returns as trained assassin Jason Bourne for the latest showdown in The Bourne Ultimatum. In the follow-up to The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy — the smash hits that have earned more than $500 million at the global box office and sold almost 20 million copies in North America alone since their debut in home entertainment — Academy Award-nominated PAUL GREENGRASS (United 93, The Bourne Supremacy) again directs a breathtaking espionage thriller that allows moviegoers to crisscross the globe and follow one man as he stays a step ahead of his would-be assassins.

In the world of action choreography, chase sequences and intricate plot switchbacks, the Bourne series has set a new standard for an entire genre. With an innovative story structure that rewards fans who have followed the series and thrills those new to it, The Bourne Ultimatum explodes with twists and surprises. Capitalizing on the increasing stature of Damon and a cast of award-winning supporting talent in The Bourne Ultimatum, internationally lauded filmmaker Greengrass understands that audiences demand intelligent espionage stories complete with heart-wrenching emotion and mind-boggling action.

We find Bourne living as a man without a country or a past. Subjected to brutal training he doesn’t remember by people he can’t identify, Bourne was turned into a sophisticated human weapon — the toughest target the CIA has ever tracked. Since he was discovered floating in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy several years ago, he has been on a desperate quest to learn who he is and discover who taught him how to kill.

After his lover, Marie, died from an assassin’s bullet, however, all Bourne wanted was revenge. Once he found it, what he craved was to forever disappear and forget the life stolen from him. But a front-page story in a London newspaper that speculates about his existence ends that hope, and he finds himself once again a target.

Treadstone, the top-secret black-ops program that created this super-assassin, is now defunct. It has been re-imagined as the joint Department of Defense program Blackbriar, with a new generation of trained killers — hidden from domestic or foreign oversight — at the government’s disposal. To them, Bourne is a $30-million malfunctioning threat who must be taken out, once and for all. To him, they are the only link to a life he has tried in vain to forget.

Bourne has reached the end of the line. This time, he will not stop at his former masters’ empty promises or even with the killing of those who relentlessly pursue him. With nothing left to lose, he will use each nuance of his training and every finely honed instinct they taught him to come after his creators and finish it all.

His quest will take him from Moscow, Paris and Madrid to London and Tangier — evading, outsmarting and outmaneuvering Blackbriar operatives, federal agents and local police every step of the way — in a desperate quest to find answers to questions that haunt him. And Bourne’s journey will ultimately lead him to where it all began and where it must come to an end: the streets of New York City.

Joining Matt Damon in “The Bourne Ultimatum” are returning cast members JULIA STILES (The Omen, the Bourne series) as conflicted agent Nicky Parsons and three-time Oscar nominee JOAN ALLEN (The Upside of Anger, The Bourne Supremacy) as CIA internal investigator Pamela Landy. Newcomers to the series include DAVID STRATHAIRN (Good Night, and Good Luck., Fracture) as Noah Vosen, head of the black-ops program Blackbriar; SCOTT GLENN (The Silence of the Lambs, Training Day) as Ezra Kramer, the CIA’s director; PADDY CONSIDINE (Hot Fuzz, In America) as Simon Ross, a British newsman ready to break the Blackbriar story; EDGAR RAMIREZ (Domino, El Don) as Paz, the deadly operative who is hot on Bourne’s trail; and five-time Academy Award nominee ALBERT FINNEY (Erin Brockovich, Big Fish) as Dr. Albert Hirsch.

STARRING: Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Paddy Considine, Edgar Ramirez
DIRECTOR: Paul Greengrass
STUDIO: Universal Pictures
RATING: PG-13 (For violence, language, intense action sequences)
